Black Hole Horizon a kinetic sound installation

Black Hole Horizon by German artist and composer Thom Kubli is a kinetic sound installation composed of three horn-like instruments of different sizes. Emitting deep resonant tones, the sculptures generate large soap bubbles that grow with the sound before detaching and drifting through space. The work takes its title from the event horizon surrounding a black hole, where information becomes inaccessible to the observer. Shaped by sound, air, gravity and chance, each bubble follows an unpredictable path, creating ever-changing constellations within the exhibition space. Transforming sound into a physical and spatial experience, the installation gives rise to fragile forms that emerge, float and disappear, continuously reshaping the environment through movement, chance and transformation.

Bio

Thom Kubli's installations, performances, and sculptures explore the relationships between sound, material processes, and emergent behavior. Working across composition, sculpture, and technological experimentation, Kubli creates environments in which acoustic phenomena become physical and spatial experiences.

Many of his projects are developed in collaboration with scientific and technological research institutions, including the MIT Media Lab and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His works often combine sound, sculpture, and technical systems to produce situations that evolve beyond complete prediction or control.
