Daydream Air becomes art
"As a child, I imagined a place far beyond our sky. A planet with its own weather, atmosphere, and logic entirely." Marina Abramović

Snowy / Windy / Spring on the Planet Z the Artist's first Immersive Installation

Snowy/Windy/Spring on Planet Z translates that childhood imagination into an immersive inflatable environment where visitors inhabit the same invented world, breathing the same impossible air. For Abramović, the balloon is both a childhood object and a performative form: fragile, temporary, entirely dependent on breath. Air — long central to her practice — becomes material, presence, and memory. Conceived as a reconnection to childhood wonder, the work invites visitors to rediscover what can emerge when imagination is given space to take hold.

Bio

Since the beginning of her career in Belgrade during the early 1970s, Marina Abramović has pioneered performance as a visual art form. She created some of the most important early works in this field, including Rhythm 0 (1974), in which she offered herself as an object of experimentation for the audience, and Rhythm 5 (1974), where she lay inside a burning five-pointed star until losing consciousness. These performances combined concept with physicality, endurance with empathy, and danger with passivity, pushing the boundaries of self-discovery for both artist and audience. They also marked her first explorations of time, stillness, pain, and heightened consciousness through long durational performance.

In 2012, she founded the Marina Abramović Institute (MAI), a non-profit foundation dedicated to performance art, long durational works, and the "Abramović Method," creating new possibilities for collaboration across disciplines. Abramović was among the first performance artists to gain recognition within major museums, with solo exhibitions presented throughout Europe and the United States for more than 25 years. In 2010, she held her first major U.S. retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art while simultaneously performing The Artist is Present for over 700 hours. Her European retrospective The Cleaner toured major institutions across Europe between 2017 and 2019. In 2023, she became the first female artist to present a major solo exhibition in the Main Galleries of the Royal Academy of Arts. In 2024, she opened her first solo exhibition in China, Transforming Energy, at the Museum of Modern Art. Abramović has received numerous international awards, including the Golden Lion Award at the Venice Biennale for Balkan Baroque (1997), the Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts (2021), the Sonning Prize (2023), and the Praemium Imperiale for Sculpture awarded by the Japan Art Association in 2025.
