Boris Acket
"There, Where I am Absent is a kinetic sculpture featuring a single suspended mechanical wing, rotated 90 degrees from its natural position. Reflected by a mirrored ceiling, the absent counterpart appears only as image — immaterial, yet present." Boris Acket
There, Where I am Absent a kinetic sculpture
The work activates when visitors lie beneath the sculpture, merging their reflection with the phantom anatomy of the machine. Observer and installation become inseparable. Created with Acket's signature lightweight fabrics, the work continues his exploration of control, surrender, illusion, and belief through constantly shifting movement.
Bio
Boris Acket is a conceptual artist whose research-driven practice unfolds at the intersection of sound, light, and kinetic sculpture. Working across permanent and site-specific installations, Acket investigates the tension between control and surrender, probing how human systems impose order upon, and ultimately yield to, the forces of the natural world.
Acket's work is grounded in rigorous inquiry. His ongoing dialogue with acoustic ecologist Gordon Hempton and sociologist Riyan van den Born has shaped a body of work that functions as both sanctuary and provocation: immersive environments that invite ritualistic encounter while gesturing toward the dystopian futures we are already inhabiting. Each project begins with deep research into ecological, philosophical, and perceptual frameworks, translating complex ideas into sensory, collective experience.
Collaboration is central to his practice. Acket works fluidly across disciplines, partnering with musicians, composers, and performers to dissolve the boundary between art and live experience. His cross-industry reach extends into luxury, with commissions and collaborations including Prada and BOSS, reflecting an ability to bring conceptual rigor into cultural and commercial contexts alike.
His works and performances have been presented at: Milan Salone del Mobile; Kunsthal, Milan, IT; Mutek MX, Mexico City; Paris Fashion Week, Paris; Dark Matter Berlin, Berlin, GR; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, NL; NXT Museum, Amsterdam, NL; Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, NL and featured in publications such as Designboom, NRC, Volkskrant, Parool, and others.
