Daydream Air becomes art

Her Joy / Our Breath a breathing installation

Her Joy rises and falls like breath: a monumental mirror ball collapsing and expanding in slow rhythm, imagined by the artist as a vocalist whose presence emerges and fades with each inhale and exhale. Reflections from her mirrored surface scatter across the space like kinetic light paintings. Just as the party ends, it begins again. Surrounding her, Our Breath forms a dome of fabric-covered lungs breathing in synchronized unison — swelling, contracting, endlessly demanding more. Between performer and audience, the viewer completes the work's meaning.

Bio

Alex Schweder describes his work as "Performance Architecture" for the ways his environments are developed through performance thinking. His projects include inflatables at a range of scales, extreme buildings that he occupies for periods of time, projections onto mist, and performed renovations of domestic space.

By making architecture through performance, Schweder works with space toward questions rather than solutions. His work is exhibited and collected internationally, including the Museum of Modern Art.
